
Mission Statement
The Alabama Firefighters Association is dedicated to being a leader to enhancing the education and the safety of the citizens of Alabama through the Fire Service and Emergency Medical Service (EMS). This is accomplished by promoting and providing benefits, training, and education to firefighters, and emergency medical technicians (EMT) We will achieve this with dedicated members using teamwork and giving our best to create an environment that provides each of us the opportunity to reach our potential. To do this we will seek opportunities to partner with other bodies to advance this mission. We will continue to improve our services to firefighters and emergency medical technicians.
The Alabama Firefighters Association was formed in 1936. The Associations purpose is to formulate and promote programs useful to the fire and emergency medical service and to represent the interest of Alabama’s first responders.
This is accomplished by our membership joining voices to make a difference. AFA has many appointments on committees that lead the direction of Alabama’s fire service, a few are listed below:
- Alabama Fire College Personnel Standards & Commission
- State Director National Volunteer Fire Council (NVFC)
- Alabama Joint Fire Council
- Alabama State Department of Public Health EMS Division
- Police Officer & Firefighter’s Survivors Education Assistance Program
- Rural Community Fire Protection (Forestry)
- Board of Commissioners of Alabama Firefighters Annuity and Benefit Fund
