Greene County, Alabama LODD

We regret to inform the fire service community of a Line of Duty Death that occurred early this morning in Greene County. At 2:36 AM Assistant Fire Chief Stanley Martin Jr. of the Springfield Volunteer Fire Department responded as an apparatus operator to the scene of a structure fire at 71 Peachtree Lane, Eutaw, AL.  Following suppression activities, Asst. Chief Martin began to complain of shortness of breath.  Fire Chief George Henderson called for an ambulance, but prior to its arrival, Asst. Chief Martin stopped breathing and resuscitation was initiated by on scene personnel.  He was transported to Greene County Hospital but medical efforts were unsuccessful. He was 71 years of age.

LODD representatives from the Alabama Association of Fire Chiefs/Alabama Fire College are working to support the family and Springfield Volunteer Fire Department. Funeral arrangements are pending and the family welcomes local responders to attend in fire service uniforms. More information will follow as it becomes available.

CALL TO DUTY!

CALL TO DUTY

ALL ALABAMA FIREFIGHTERS,

We are receiving word that six fire stations have been destroyed on the South Shore of Long Island.  We know of these six and have received little word from Suffolk County or information regarding stations in New Jersey.  Our Brothers and Sisters need us to take action immediately to help them get back into service.  Some of the equipment that came to Alabama in the aftermath of the April 27th Tornados came from the fire stations that now lay in ruins.  Now is our time to step up and lend a helping hand to our Brothers and Sisters that have been there in the past for us.

The Terry Farrell Firefighters Fund is requesting that donations be sent to assist these departments as indicated below.  If you or your department would like to make a donation to the Fund, all of the money will be used to assist the firefighters and their departments.  Contact Spruce McRee, Director of Alabama Chapter Terry Farrell Fund (205-908-3850 – tvmcree@gmail.com) ,Larry Jarvis (205-799-4152 – ljarvis@alabamafirecollege.org), or Reid Vaughan (205-499-6905 – chief@cubafiredept.org) if you need assistance with the collection of your donation.  The Alabama Chapter will be collecting donations from Alabama Firefigthers and Fire Departments.  We will forward every penny of that money to the National Chapter to assist the affected departments.  Please see the announcements attached from the Secrets List (www.firefighterclosecalls.com)

Yours in Service,

Spruce McRee, Director

Alabama Chapter
