Fire Chief Howard T. Summerford Jr.

Center Point Fire and Rescue 

 

 

Chief Summerford began his emergency service career as a volunteer firefighter for Center Point in the fall of 1966.  He became one of the departments first paid employees in March of 1967.  In 1973 Chief Summerford became one of the first Nationally Certified Emergency Medical Technicians in the state of Alabama.  Over the years Chief Summerford has shown dedications and hard work to the Center Point Fire Department and the community to which it serves.  This lead to promotion through the ranks and on January 10th, 2001 he was appointed to the position of Fire Chief.  Chief Summerford holds an Associate Degree in Fire Science from Jefferson State Community College and serves on the Fire Science Degree Advisory Committee.  He currently serves as chairman of the Jefferson County 9-1-1 Advisory Board and has also served in the past as an Adjunct Instructor for the Alabama State Fire College where he provided instruction on Incident Command, Fire Instructor Certification and Technical Rescue as well as several other topics.  Chief Summerford is active in may local and national Fire Service organizations, including the International Association of Fire Chiefs, Central Alabama Fire Chiefs Association, Alabama Association of Fire Chiefs, International Firefighter’s Association Local 117, Birmingham Alabama Retired Firefighters Association and the Alabama Firefighters Association. Chief Summerford is dedicated to providing the best service possible through progressive leadership and a sincere desire to make a positive contribution to the community.
